UPCOMING CLINICS BOOK SESSION

Hey swimmers! This is coach Milo.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from you all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"Do Swimmers Wear Speedos All The Time? Olympic Swimmer's Hot Take on Jammer vs. Brief"

Answer:

A jammer extends from the hips to the knees. A brief is the traditional speedo-style suit. Functionally, there’s no major performance difference — it’s mostly preference.
Younger athletes often wear jammers for comfort or insecurity reasons. Around age 14 and up, many transition to briefs because they offer greater hip mobility, less material drag, and better water feel. Briefs are also cheaper and less prone to thinning out or becoming see-through over time.
If you’re 14 or older, I recommend trying a brief. Most swimmers who switch don’t go back.

Summary:

Jammers and briefs differ mainly in coverage. Briefs offer more mobility, better water feel, and are often preferred by older athletes.
